Top 50 French ski resorts on Facebook (on 2 July 2013)

Guess who grew their Facebook fans the most in June among French ski resorts?

Le Grand Bornand. Its likes were up just over 10% for the month, compared to an average of just 1.4% for all the top 50.

Why, or rather, how? No, it didn’t run a competition, but it did kick off an initiative at the end of May offering to help the resort’s businesses and service providers raise their game on social media, including workshops and one-on-one support. Smart idea, and the first session in early June coincided with a surge in Facebook likes and engagement.

Others that beat the average in June did run contests, including Châtel, up over 6%, and – among the ski domains – Haute Maurienne Vanoise, which jumped 43% to nearly 13,000 fans now.

Chamonix remains the stand-out though for consistent growth and engagement. People talking about this was above 1,000 for most of the month and fan growth was over 6%.

Other random facts from the research this month:

  • six resorts lost likes on Facebook in June
  • a few still have a winter scene as their timeline cover photo (you know who you are…)
  • Les 2 Alpes just hit the 20,000 likes milestone as I write this…
